TitleArchie [= Archie Dagg]ContentsCopy of side A of a compilation tape made for “Archie”. The recording continues with NPS-JFC-E-009-01 (Batch 5)
Notes[Note: some of the accordions are definitely button (melodeon), one or two piano but I have not attempted to differentiate MD]

The first words are “Well now, Archie, I’m starting this off with the man that I think is your favourite player, Sean Maguire”. It’s quite possibly Archie Dagg, as per the label but that isn’t spelled out, though there is mention of a Louis or Louie who from context is a family member. A strong possibility is Reg Hall, who made a lot of recordings of musicians across the UK and Ireland, and some in the US. His focus seems to have been on Irish music, which would fit with the amount of Irish music on the tape. I have discounted Peter Kennedy as not enough of the names/tunes feature in the extensive archives available online [And from comments voiced after his death, he’s unlikely to have done anything that generous].
The Sean Maguire tunes are probably from His Master’s Voice / 45-IP 1146 issued in 1963. Lizzie Crotty died in 1960. The tape was probably therefore made in the mid-1960s.

The final item stated as recorded in Bellingham was obviously in someone’s house with various conversations going on in the background. There are at least two fiddlers there but tunes start and stop with long pauses in between. The item continues at the start of 009-01
Most of the tunes are named by the compiler of the tape

Some of the items are dubs of commercial recordings, others are definitely not and some are indeterminate
