Argument for D B-Ord
The pipes used for this set of tunes have a similar sound to those in the following tunes, where I have no doubt the player is Diana Blackett-Ord. (JG)
The playing style uses very few ornaments, and those are very simple; there’s a strong contrast between tight staccato and very legato passages. This is unlike Tommy Breckons, whose style is more florid, but similar to recordings of DB-O.
Argument for Billy Pigg
Yet the sound of the pipes is different from Diana Blackett-Ord’s G major tunes at the end of the tape; there is more use of open fingered ornaments; the drones are a bit more strident, more like the sound of Billy Pigg’s set – but the style is much simpler than most recordings of Billy.
However the tunes and style correspond very closely to NPS-JFC-E-018-01 at 34’53”, labelled “Billy Pigg original tape No.1”. They may well be the same performance, though the speed and pitch are different, this being sharper and faster. Any difference may thus be an artefact of tape speed. Are the other Billy Pigg tracks here also on that tape? NPS-JFC-E-018-01 needs to be checked carefully – it hasn’t been annotated yet. I have no doubt that this set is played by Billy Pigg (JG)

The Irish Washerwoman.(JG)
The style and the pipes are very different from Joe Hutton. Beyond doubt, the player is Diana Blackett-Ord – a woman with a refined accent, playing a set with a distinctive sweet tone, including the 6 tunes of hers we know about from other recordings.

NB All these tunes are traditional, no copyright issues.
